Kensington Palace Tours Reviews

Traveller feedback from the booking listings themselves, grouped by what each trip actually does at the palace. The criticism stays in, because on this palace the criticism is the most useful thing anybody wrote.

The one thing the critical reviews all say

Read enough feedback on the guided tours and the same discovery keeps surfacing. The guide walks you through the park, tells the royal story, delivers you to the door — and then does not come in. One traveller found it a disappointment and said so. Another worked out afterwards that they had paid for a walk and a tea table they could have arranged themselves. Both are fair, and both describe the product accurately.

What none of them was told before booking is that this is not the operator's choice. Historic Royal Palaces does not allow guided commentary inside the State Apartments, so no company can do it. Once that is known, the reviews stop reading as complaints and start reading as a spec: a guided tour here buys the gardens, the history told out loud and a booked table at the Orangery, and the rooms themselves come with a handset that any ticket includes.

Every listed trip, with its own rating

These are the operators' own figures as shown on their booking pages, not scores collected here. Ratings and totals move as new bookings are reviewed, and the last column is the one worth reading first — it is the difference between a price that includes your palace entry and one that does not.

The themes that come up again and again

The handset: the entrance-ticket reviewers rate it without being asked to, and several say the room stewards standing in the apartments were better still. Asking them questions is the most common piece of advice in the whole pool.

Guides by name: Doug, Paul, Mike, Pamela, Phillip, Nicholas, Porshia and Deidra all recur, warmly. On the garden walks the guide makes the morning, and the feedback reflects that far more than it reflects any price difference.

Diana against Victoria: more than one visitor arrives expecting Diana and finds the rooms are largely about Victoria's childhood. Diana is in the Sunken Garden and in the Jewel Room's neighbouring displays rather than upstairs, and knowing that in advance changes nothing except expectations.

Heat, rain and the walk: July reviewers mention warm rooms; a January reviewer had rain the whole morning and still rated the day highly, because the palace half is under cover. The one consistent piece of kit advice is footwear, because every route crosses the park.

The Orangery: the tea tours' feedback is almost unanimously about the building rather than the food. Queen Anne had it built in 1704 and it is the reason a table there is worth booking ahead.

For the practical detail behind these comments, plan your visit covers hours, prices and access, private tours sets out what a private guide actually offers, and afternoon tea tours compares the tables. Kensington Palace Tours sets every trip side by side.
